I started this very easy trek along the banks of the Monongahela River at 40.408549°N and -79.91799°W in Homestead Pennsylvania. This trail is heavily used and well-marked with lots of very good views of the river. There’s also a few information signs along the trail that speak to the history of the area, the river, and their links to the great wars. The trail goes below the Homestead Grays Bridge at 40.40979°N and -79.91738°W winding along the riverbank. This section of the trail is called the Great Allegheny Passage. The established gravel trail ends at the Homestead Labyrinth at 40.41421°N and -79.89825°W. There’s a lot to see, do, and reflect upon at this spot. If you’re lucky you may even see the train go along the labyrinth. The Great Allegheny Passage continues heading along East Waterfront Drive to the Rivers of Steel Pump House & Water Tower located at 40.41298°N and -79.89631°W. This was the site of the 1892 Battle of Homestead. This trail continues for several miles along the Monongahela River making its way long the McKeesport Connecting Railroad Bridge to McKeesport. I chose to return to the starting point by walking back along the trail. The alternative would be to take the less spectacular sidewalk along East Waterfront Drive back. The extended hiking trail into McKeesport is recommended but not in the winter months.
Happy Trails.

It's a very picturesque trail but this section is short. I'd recommend doing the trail is good weather out to McKeesport.
