bei Gosau, Upper Austria (Austria)
This section was quite an adventure. We misread the funicular timetable ( Looked at the summer season schedule!) and it was closed by the time we arrived. The only way down to Hallstatt was via the switchback, but as we entered the trail via a short cut from the funicular, we did'nt see a closed notice for the descent. As it turned out,the way down was blocked by fallen trees, but we had no choice but climb under ( and at times over ) branches etc to make our way down. By the time we got down,we also missed the last bus back to Gosau, but two kind austrian ladies helped called for a "taxi" to solve our transport woes.
Hello Hillbilly, Your GPS-tool seems to have a problem with the calender? GTA says, that You made the track today - 20.October 2012!
The way 855 (Soleweg) would have been the right way for the descent, or was that way closed too?
Hello Hallstattfan,Sorry I am not sure what is wrong with the calender of the mapsource program. The track date recorded on the GPS ,when it was saved, gives the correct date.Maybe something happened when i extracted each track from the mapsource program to produce a google-earth picture of each track and its elevation profile. As for the way 855, we had past this by the time we reached the funicular station, so decided to go down the switchback instead. However when we walked the Soleleitungsweg on the 9th, from Gosaumuhle back to Hallstatt,we noticed , just as we were about to descend to Hallstatt, that a trail from this to Salzberg was also closed. This might have been the 855.If so,we would have had to scramble too !!
Hello Hallstattfan,I think I might have an answer to the date of the calender that you mentioned. When I downloaded this track from wikiloc, it shows that the file was "modified" and uses todays date and time of the download ie the 20th. The initial file was actually created on the 15th Oct and uploaded on Oct 18th ( which is the date shown in the wikiloc panel,on the right of the mapview)./Cheers
Hello Hillbilly, yesterday I have examined alternative descents of your route in the Echerntal. There would have been surprises too, because there has been an enormous stone avalanche, so that one has built a total new street!About "modifications" caused by WikiLoc and other software later! That ist a long story. Not important, but an example: when I am writing english text in this german Wikiloc, the editor always changes letters.
Hello Hillbilly, news from Hallstatt: http://gigapan.com/gigapans/130155
Hello Hallstattfan,What a splendid and spectacular high resolution shot of Hallstatt.Shudders! Is that a recent "landslide " i see, on the hills behind. is'nt that the location of the switchback down from the funicular to Hallstatt ??cheers
Hello Hallstattfan,How very thoughtful of you. I just put your comments through the google translator and saw your dedication... Thank you very much for remembering!!! ;) It was quite some adventure.Cheers
"Schauder! Ist das ein neuer "Erdrutsch", den ich auf den Hügeln hinten sehe. ist dass nicht der Ort der Serpentinenstraße unten von der Seilbahn bis Hallstatt??"Yes, Hillbilly, that is the way You went. But that was no "landslide" like Felbertauern last week.It was necessary to renew the forrest, because the trees are to old (200 years). cheers
