Beschreibung der Reiseroute
We leave the camp site and take a left uphill past sign for ‘Reserve de la Fontaines’ which is a short round trek we did not do but possibly worth integrating. We follow the wide clear path keeping left at junction and eventually enter Axat from the top,walking past the church and taking a narrow mountain pass down to the town and river below. Axat is non descript, deserted for the most part and not architecturally pretty, nevertheless n a hot summers day when the temperature was 37 degrees at midday, we chose to visit the municipal pool for 5€ pp before leaving to take a dip in the river Aude, much cooler albeit a little shallow to swim we managed to cool down. After a drink and snack at Cafe Céntrale we ambled back to camp via a quaint narrow mountain path, shaded along the entire length eventually joining our original wide track we set off from. All in all a pretty route nothing spectacular but we got our daily exercise steps in nature along the way. Buen Camino fellow Pyrenean trekkers
